Technology Day 2013

More than 100 people attended MCA’s second Technology Day on February 7, 2013.

Kickoff speaker, Reg Hunter, Senior Program Director for Fiatech and a former rocket scientist, stressed the need for (and inevitably of) increased productivity in construction. He then outlined eight key areas where this improvement will take place.

Hunter’s informative presentation was followed by four breakout sessions covering Trimble’s new cloudpoint scanner, Common Sense Solutions’ software for just about everything in your shop, a demonstration of Bluebeam’s Studio program and finally, a presentation on how to develop your own apps.

Lunchtime featured a tradeshow where all of the speakers were available to talk with attendees one-on-one. Immediately following lunch, MCA of Akron Exec VP Aaron Hall, gave everyone a look at some useful and elusive tips that everyone with an iPad needs to know about.

Afternoon breakouts included Trimble’s Sketch Up Pro for MEP, which is easier to use and much cheaper than full BIM, yet robust enough for many of our contractors. Mark Bevill showed the future of building automation where lighting, HVAC, and security controls will be merged with IT to form smart buildings. Chris DiIorio, co-founder of ENGworks, showed contractors how they can provide BIM as a service for just about anyone; while Teri Kaskin of Wennsoft showed service contractors their complete mobile service software.
